Likewise, your favorite webmasters find themselves reinvigorated, and their web pages in full bloom. The following three webs contain hundreds of links to valuable Macintosh programming resources on the Internet. Robert Lentz http://www.astro.nwu.edu/lentz/mac/programming/home-prog.html Brian Bechtel http://www.info.apple.com/dev/geeks.html Elliotte “Rusty” Harold’s The Well Connected Mac http://rever.nmsu.edu/~elharo/faq/Macintosh.html It seems like every other network geek is becoming an Internet Service Provider, complete with business cards, fancy homepages, and other marketing material to disguise the fact that their lane of the information superhighway is a small cluster of old Macintoshes in the spare room. This feels like the start of another gold rush. David Dennis at Cinenet has provided a detailed and well written FAQ about running an ISP with Linux (an Intel based unix). The FAQ discusses business issues and features information from actual ISPs. http://amazing.cinenet.net/faq.html Jon Wiederspan’s series on making your Macintosh WWW server do tricks is a must-read. http://www.uwtc.washington.edu/Computing/WWW/Lessons/START_HERE.html http://www.uwtc.washington.edu/Computing/WWW/Mac/Directory.html Finally, visit the ISDN and Inter-NIC pages listed under Internet related material for more information. Sun is working on a ’net client that supports an extensible interface and remote program execution. In typical unix-centric fashion, they’ve embedded a C-like object oriented language into the browser, and both the language and browser are named Java: http://java.sun.com/ Macintosh There’s now a searcher for the UMich/MERIT Macintosh archives, to complement MidNet’s Info-Mac searcher. Like Info-Mac, MERIT archives software, updaters, utilities, and boasts a pretty impressive collection of source code. There are several MERIT mirrors listed on this page as well. http://pubweb.nexor.co.uk/public/mac/archive/welcome.html Quickdraw GX is probably the first operating system extension to have it’s own fanclub, complete with a comprehensive web page: http://aah.residences.ulaval.ca/quickgx/quickgx.html And here are a couple other GX information pages. Lawrence D’Oliveiro: http://www2.waikato.ac.nz/ldo/gx/index.html Apple’s official GX page: http://www.info.apple.com/gx/gx.html DTS Sample Code is now available for browsing on the web: http://www.info.apple.com/dev/source/index.html The THINK Class Library archives now has a homepage: http://rhino.harvard.edu/dan/TCLArchive.html Last, but not least are a few, clean, well done pages with varied information with a strong Macintosh bent.
